Heard loads while out walking this weekend. There's a really good app someone recommended to me called merlin bird, it uses the mic on your phone to listen to bird song and tell you what they are. I'm slowly learning them!

Such a beautiful bird 😍 I don’t think I’ve ever seen a chaffinch ‘in the flesh’…yet!

Who needs parrots when we can have finches?! Wait til the bulfinches and goldfinches turn up ...

Oh yes, we have plenty of goldfinches in the garden, they're beautiful too! We've only ever had a couple of bullfinches in the garden, I've probably seen them a handful of times over the four years we've lived here, they're stunning.

We don't have chaffinches in New Jersey, but I recorded them on my bird app when I was in France last year. It was so exciting to come across a new bird. I wasn't able to see them, though, so I'm glad you posted this! They are so cute. Love all the colors.

Your talk of a 'bird app' has caught my interest, what is this and should I download it? :-) They're beautiful birds, aren't they?

Merlin. It's run by Cornell University. You can get identification packages for different areas of the world. It identifies birds either visually or by song.

I love chaffinches! We have quite a little flock now under our feeders- plus 5 female and one male pheasant! The chaffinches make amusing attempts to perch on the feeders too- with varying degrees of success- squabbling with the greenfinches!

Oh the damn greenfinches, I call them 'bully birds', they seem to be mean to all the others. I am pleased to hear that you have many of them visiting your feeders. I tend to attract male pheasants to the garden, although at times they'll bring along a lady or two to dine :-)

Oh beautiful pictures and what a great ode to the chaffinch. We have a couple in our garden as well. I recently installed a bird bath for them because it's been so dry and hot here and watching them enjoy it is the best thing ever.

Oh your talk of warm weather makes me jealous. I'm pleased that you have them visiting you, and I agree, their bathing antics are funny.

I love getting out in the fresh air and noticing all the different birds. I've not seen many but heard loads of different birdsong. Pigeons, woodpeckers, chaffinch, robins, blue tits etc. It makes my blood boil when some people don't take any notice of the birds when walking through a park

I agree, one of the main reasons I go out walking is to see different species :-) it makes the walk so much more interesting.

It's a pity that a great majority of them are totally ignorant of avian life and beauty.
