We get lots of goldfinches. I love them. Yes they love sunflower hearts. I got niger seeds but they were left untouched. Lovely article. Thank you.

I love goldfinches so much! I have found the same thing as you, I was told that niger seeds were a good choice - but they definitely prefer sunflower seeds 😊

Absolutely, sunflower hearts seem to be a well-loved treat for all of the birds around here :-)

The goldfinches are always such a cheerful sight in the garden, and a very welcome visitor in a fairly urban space.

They are lovely little birds. I very rarely see these in my garden, but there are lots in many local nature reserves. Always a joy to watch.

In the days when we had bird feeders, our garden was full of goldfinches and they were so delightful to watch. My favourite was the way they would fight for the feeder. One would fly at the other one and take the spot and then another would do the same and it went on and on like a feeding carousel. The robin just used to sit under the feeder and eat all the bits they dropped. 😂

Haha, yes, it's the same here. The chaffinch is usually a good contender for the robin's spot on the ground.
