Welcome to My Cosy Corner of the Internet!

Oh, hello there! Fancy seeing you here. I’m absolutely chuffed you’ve popped by. Go on, grab a cuppa, get comfy, and let me tell you why subscribing to my newsletter is a great idea.

If you’re into wildlife, nature, and all things English countryside, then congratulations - you’ve found your person!

Who’s behind all this?

I’m Jenna - introvert extraordinaire, eternal optimist (or at least I try to be), and someone who definitely prefers being behind the camera rather than in front of it. Seriously, if my phone camera roll is anything to go by, I might as well be a ghost. I live in a charming cottage in the English countryside with my partner, our dog Gus, and a handful of rather opinionated hens.

In 2021, life threw me a curveball in the form of a Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis. Fast forward to 2024, and after yet another thrilling MRI scan, I’m delighted to report that my MS is stable - cue the happy dance! I’ve made some big lifestyle changes - slowing down, tweaking my diet, and generally learning to outmanoeuvre those pesky brain lesions. So far, so good!

By day, I work full-time and juggle a freelance side hustle. By night (and any spare moment in between), I’m creating, writing, and chasing my creativity dream.

How did I end up here?

For years, I flirted with the idea of blogging but could never figure out where to start. Enter Substack! One day, I stumbled upon this delightful little corner of the internet, and within hours, I’d found my people. The community is warm, welcoming, and full of fellow nature lovers - what more could I ask for?

I also run an Instagram account called Our Country Life, where I document my daily adventures and rural ramblings.

A few years ago, we had the chance to move into a beautiful cottage in the woods, and naturally, we jumped at it. Since then, we’ve fully embraced countryside living - wildlife encounters, the ever-changing seasons, and all the weird and wonderful quirks of remote life. (Yes, that includes the occasional power cut and some rather audacious weasels.)

One of my greatest joys has been photographing and sharing the natural world right on our doorstep. We’ve had swallows nesting in the chicken coop for three years running, and blue tits raising their young in our gatepost - nature is full of surprises! Now, I document these magical moments and all the countryside ‘wisdom’ I’ve gathered here on Substack. Expect everything from owl encounters to my (sometimes chaotic) adventures in growing fruit and veg as a total gardening novice.

Why Subscribe?

I created Our Country Life as a little escape - a place where you can sip your Sunday morning tea and feel all warm and fuzzy inside. My goal? To bring a bit of countryside calm to your inbox every Sunday at 7am.

Every last Sunday of the month, I send out In My Cottage Garden, where I share updates on my garden—what’s thriving, what’s not, and what’s gone spectacularly wrong, I like to call them ‘learning curves’.

Oh, and I’m also working on making my photographs downloadable, so you can bring a little slice of the countryside into your home. Life’s been a bit hectic lately, but all will be revealed soon…

So, if you fancy a weekly dose of nature, cosy countryside tales, and a few laughs along the way, click that subscribe button and I’ll see you on Sunday morning!
